Inspiring Others

I am pleased that Tad Milmine, an RCMP officer from Surrey, was able to address the students of HSS on the topic of bullying. His message was simple and, yet, very powerful. It is a message about truth, tolerance, acceptance, and empowerment. You may read more about Tad and his message on his website: http://www.bullyingendshere.ca. Thanks to Mrs. Wilkins for organizing today's event.

Tad reminded me of the effect our choices may have on those with whom we come into contact. We all make choices that can have a significant impact on the lives of others. I challenge the students at HSS to reflect on their actions and make a choice about helping someone & making a positive difference in the life of someone within our Hope Secondary community or in the community of Hope. A few examples include: choosing to offer a kind word to someone who is feeling sad; offering to listen to someone who is not having a great day; offering to eat lunch with someone who is sitting alone; choosing to 'step in' and prevent someone from being hurt physically or emotionally; choosing to do the right thing even though it may not be the easy thing (that takes courage)! What choice(s) will you make that will have a positive effect?

I was inspired by Tad's message and humbled by his passion and compassion for others. I am in awe of his resilience and that of the human spirit. I am very grateful Tad was able to spend the day with us and connect with our youth. He has touched the lives of many and is committed to making a difference--will you?
